Caring, deeply.

I believe that caring deeply is one of the most attractive qualities you can find in a person. Commitment and passion are precious treasures. When you genuinely care about another person, invest in your career, or wholeheartedly support a cause or particular mindset, it might seem a bit “too much” to the outside world.

In today’s culture, there appears to be an unspoken competition to see who can care the least. The allure of adopting a passively cool, indifferent stance is trendy. It’s also safe. We put up a nonchalant façade, shielding ourselves from potential disappointment if things unfold as planned. When you claim not to care, you shield yourself from the pain of not getting what you want. When you don’t care, it’s easier to walk away when someone hurts you. Forgetfulness, without the work of forgiving.

The "safe" zone of a passive mindset sets you up to putter through life with shallow feelings and a narrow, limited mindset. Without going deep into the work and investment of living wholeheartedly, we limit our potential on the upside for unexpected and amazing success.

Letting yourself be passionate sets you up for hard work. It’s not easy to run after what you want. When we care, we invest our time and energy into what (or who) we are passionate about. I’m so thankful for those who have invested in me over the years — through words of encouragement, hard-to-hear feedback, praise when I’ve done well and loving critique when I’ve messed up. Connection with others brings energy and joy to life. Investing in others is a beautiful thing.

I want to be a person who cares, deeply, and surrounds myself with the same.

Caring deeply about my work = investing weekend time in reading. Learning is privilege and gift – not a chore! Especially with a nice view :)
